Howard Butterworth is a renowned Aberdeenshire artist with a passion for capturing the light and drama of the Scottish landscape in oil paint for over five decades. Every year he would take seasonal road trips to recharge and for a change of scenery. With a love of cars, nature and travel he found joy and inspiration in journeying to the wild and raw beauty of the West Coast and the Scottish Highlands. Howard Butterworth's en plein air paintings from the roadside are well known and loved for their unique ability to capture the mood, atmosphere and feeling of being in the landscape at a particular place and moment in time.
Howard's extensive West Coast and Highlands collection includes an archive of original paintings and print editions including Sunsets, seascapes, dramatic coastlines, and picturesque harbours and villages and famous landmarks from the area.

Many of Howard Butterworth's paintings feature locations now included in the iconic North Coast 500 road trip, a hugely popular scenic route that winds through the stunning landscapes of the Scottish Highlands. His collection of artwork captures the essence of many of the favourite stop offs that are now visited on this iconic journey - showcasing the beauty and timeless charm of the region.
