Royal Deeside is a stunning destination enjoyed by many and home to one of Scotland's favourite living landscape artists. Howard Butterworth is renowned for painting outside in all weather and capturing the moods of the ever changing landscape in all its seasons. What better way to witness the majestic scenery of the Cairngorms, the Braes of Mar, Lochnagar, Loch Muick, Glenmuick, Ballater, Cambus O' May, Crathes Castle, Loch Kinord, etc, than by following in the well trodden footsteps and inspirational artwork of this Aberdeenshire artist.
From the source of the Dee high up within the snow capped mountains of the Cairngorm National Park to Aberdeen where the Dee finally meets the icy North Sea, Howard takes you on a meandering route which sees many highlights captured "en plein air" in the characteristic style he refers to as "emotional realism".
Specially created on the popular Google Maps App to give art lovers and Butterworth fans an exclusive insight into Howard's most iconic original paintings, their location and perhaps a few fun facts, this map will provide a new and hopefully exciting dimension to an actual visit or indeed a virtual one in the comfort of your own home. Why not take a look at our full range of fine art giclees and prints to find your own favourite spot.
