Much interest surrounded this iconic image of the Roup at Aultonrea in Glen Muick by Howard Butterworth at this years Scottish Home Show so we decided to share a little of the history that surrounds this famous painting.
Howard attended and made several sketches that contributed to the final artwork of ‘The Roup’ The auction was held in 1983 at Aultonrea, just outside of Ballater. Miss Esson who had owned the lease on the Glen Muick property, was part of a local family who had lived and worked on Royal Deeside for many generations. After she passed away her estate was broken up and sold by an auctioneer team from Aberdeen, one of which was Alan Taylor a rather well known and loved character of the area.
In 1986 the limited edition print of 250 copies was produced as a paper lithograph and has been sold out and sought after for several years. In 2015 to mark Howard's 70th Birthday 70 copies have been produced as a limited canvas giclee print. Click Here to read more on Howards take of a very memorable North East occasion.
