How to buy original Scottish landscape paintings? - Own Art

October 15, 2025

Wondering where to buy Scottish landscapes and original artwork? The Butterworth Gallery makes it simple with Own Art’s interest-free scheme.

At the Butterworth Gallery, we believe that owning original art should be accessible to everyone. That's why we're proud to offer Own Art, a fantastic interest-free loan scheme designed to help you bring home the art you love. If you are dreaming of a owning a stunning Scottish landscape painting by Howard Butterworth or Mary Louise Butterworth, then the 'Own Art' scheme might be for you.

What is Own Art?

Own Art is a national initiative, supported by Creative Scotland, that makes buying contemporary art by living artists affordable - from the gallery to your home with 0% finance. The scheme allows you to spread the cost of your purchase over several months, completely interest-free. This means you can invest in a painting from our artists without a significant upfront payment on terms that suit you.

How Does Own Art Work at Butterworth Gallery?

We offer two convenient interest-free payment plans through Own Art:

10-Month Interest-Free: For those who prefer a shorter repayment period, you can spread the cost of your chosen original artwork (£100-£2500) over 10 equal monthly instalments.

20-Month Interest-Free: For larger investments (Over £2,500) or a more relaxed repayment schedule, our 20-month interest-free option provides even greater flexibility.

The Own Art process is simple and we are on hand to help guide you through the process.

Step 1. First, you will need to check you are eligible for the scheme.

Own Art is available to all permanent UK residents over the age of 18, subject to status.

This means that you must be able to meet one of the following criteria in order to apply for a loan:

  • Working at least 16 hours a week(employed or self-employed)
  • A retired person in receipt of a pension
  • A person in receipt of disability allowance

If you do not meet one of these criteria but are married to or living with a partner who does, then you may still apply provided that your partner is happy for their income details to be included on your application form.

Step 2. Once you have decided on your painting, let us know that you'd like to apply for Own Art to finance your purchase. Contact Sarah on enquiries@thebutterworthgallery.com or Tel: 07379140231

Step 3. We will give you a call and take you through the online loan application process, which normally takes about 10 minutes.  Once you've given all the information needed, you'll get an instant decision.  A deposit is not necessary, but reduces any monthly payments.

Step 4. Once the agreement has been signed, the process is complete and you are ready to collect your artwork!

Own Art allows you to acquire a stunning original oil painting on terms that suit you,and pay for it in manageable monthly amounts. - whether it's a dramatic Highland scene by Howard Butterworth or an atmospheric coastal sunset by Mary Louise Butterworth
